Take your editorial skills to the next level. This intensive two-day course is for people who already have some experience of editorial work, but who want to deepen their levels of technical knowledge and text handling. It also provides a forum for discussing some of the most stubborn or problematic issues in both development editing and copy-editing.

  • Difficult manuscripts – How much editing?

  • Improving the accuracy of your edit

  • Major style decisions and their implications (e.g. weights and measures, ranks and titles, organisations, italics and foreign languages)

  • Handling illustrations and picture sourcing

 

THE EDITOR AS WRITER

  • When should you rewrite?

  • How to improve text without losing the author’s voice

  • Writing publicity materials

 

EDITING TIPS

  • Effective use of Word

  • Mark up PDFs

  • Handover to design

  • Handling freelance support
